Steel Coating for Fabricators and Contractors
Coating support for steel fabricators
MCP Painting Group works with steel fabricators and structural steel contractors who need the steel they produce or erect primed, coated and protected. We do not fabricate steel. Our role is the coating work: preparing surfaces for paint, applying primers and topcoats, and spray applying specialist coatings to the specification your client has set.
Bringing in a specialist applicator lets your own team stay focused on fabrication and erection, while the coating is carried out by painters who do it every day.
Who we work with
- Structural and specialist steel fabricators
- Steel chimney and stack manufacturers
- Industrial and process plant fabricators
- Structural steel contractors on construction projects
Typical steelwork
We coat the kind of steel that goes into industrial and commercial buildings and plant, including columns, beams, trusses, portal frames, staircases and secondary steelwork, as well as fabricated items such as chimney and flue sections.
What we provide
- Priming of prepared steel to protect it and give the topcoat a sound base
- Topcoats for durable protection against weather and atmospheric exposure
- Spray application for an efficient, even finish across large steel areas
- Intumescent coatings where steelwork needs passive fire protection, applied to the tested system specified for the project
- Surface preparation, including shot blasting through a specialist preparation company we work closely with, so coating starts on a properly prepared surface
Where the work is carried out
We coat steel off site, at the fabricator’s or steel company’s own premises, so sections can be primed and finished before they are delivered and erected. We also work on site where coating needs to happen after erection. We will talk through the options with you at the outset and agree what suits your programme and your client’s specification.
We work with fabricators and contractors across the UK.
Recent steel projects
- Steel chimney coatings, Stoke: two coats of primer and a polyurethane topcoat applied off site to shotblasted steel chimney sections
- Industrial unit steel frame spraying, Swindon: steel frames of an industrial unit shell mechanically sanded and spray coated with a combined primer and finish
